Shannon Elkins, RN, CNRN


Shannon Elkins specializes in care for elective and critical care neuro patients. She has worked at SAMC NeuroSpine for three years, during which time she became a Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse, a certification program of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses, which is committed to working for the highest standard of care for neuroscience patients.

Elkins earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Medicine and Athletic Training at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL in 2001. After her son was born, she started nursing school at Wallace Community College in Dothan, graduating in 2006. Prior to joining the SAMC NeuroSpine team, she worked in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Flowers Hospital, and then joined SAMC’s critical care unit, caring for critical trauma and neuro patients.

Elkins is married and enjoys fishing and four wheeling with her family, and baking and decorating big cakes.

Interesting Fact
As a teenager, I had a job dressing up as a “Southern Belle” at Cypress Gardens. I wore theatrical attire adorned by yards of lace and complete with a hoop skirt. Tourists would stop to have photos with us.
