- About Us
As part of our dedication to providing the latest in medical treatment options to area residents, SAMC offers lithotripsy, a non-invasive treatment for kidney stones.
In the past, removal of kidney stones was only achieved by surgery; however, lithotripsy (also known as Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy) offers a non surgical technique for the treatment of kidney stones by using shock waves to break up the stones into tiny pieces which are then passed in the urine.
Lithotripsy treatment may be done on an outpatient or an inpatient basis at the hospital. Services for this procedure are provided at SAMC by an independent contract mobile unit housed in a specially built facility outside the Outpatient Building on the Main Campus.
Those who think they may be a candidate for lithotripsy should contact their physician for a referral to an urologist. A recent kidney x-ray will also be needed for review.
For more information about lithotripsy, call 334-712-3336 or 1-800-735-4998.
