Restrooms and vending machines are located in or near visitor waiting rooms. For the convenience of your visitors, an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) located in the main lobby of the hospital.
Guest trays may be ordered at the Cashier Check-Out (located in Patient Accounts near the Patient Tower Information Desk on the first floor) anytime prior to meals. Please talk to your nurse for additional information and directions to our Patient Accounts department.
To make a local call from patient rooms: Dial 71, then the phone number.
To make a long-distance call from patient rooms: Dial 72, then "0" and an operator will assist you.
To call a patient's room: Dial 712-3 + the patient's room number (6:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. only).

Cell phones and radio transmitting devices are allowed except in Intensive Care Units or other areas where signage prohibits use. Please observe all signage where these devices are not allowed and please "power off" before entering these areas.
Smoking is permitted for visitors in designated smoking huts. The smoking huts are located in the front of the hospital and between the Emergency Department and Outpatient. Smoking is prohibited in all other areas.
Escort service is provided by Security Services during evening hours. Individuals who desire an escort to their vehicle(s) during this time should dial extension 8014.
Chaplains are very important members of our "Healing Team" and are available to assist patients and their families with emotional and spiritual concerns. Contact a nurse in order to notify a chaplain and for directions to the hospital chapels.
Please contact your nurse when notary service is required. A notary public is a person authorized by the state of Alabama to officially witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements and administer oaths. A notary public uses an embossing tool to verify his or her presence at the time the documents were signed. SAMC's Case Management team has notary publics who can assist patients at the hospital with a variety of legal documents relating to power-of-attorney, guardianship and healthcare directives.
