SAMC continues our commitment to making all of our new arrivals special deliveries in our expanded Family Birth Center (FBC).
SAMC opened seven new spacious labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDRP) suites Thursday afternoon during a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house. The new addition to the Women’s Center expands our total number of LDRP suites to 27. The opening of the new addition comes seven years to the day after the Women’s Center opened.
Snuggled inside the Women’s Center, the FBC creates a family centered atmosphere for mom and dad. Assisted by a dedicated and compassionate team of nurses, obstetricians, pediatricians and anesthesiologists, families are encouraged to be involved in all aspects of their baby’s care.
“The additional LDRP suites allow us to meet the growing needs of our patients,” said Tammy Smith, Women’s Center director. “They are designed to meet the individual needs of each mother and her family.”
Since opening in 2003, the FBC has delivered more than 10,000 babies. Last year, more than 1,700 babies were delivered at SAMC.
“We deliver more babies a year than any other hospital in the region,” said Smith. “We have an experienced and dedicated team of nurses, obstetricians, pediatricians and anesthesiologist providing safe quality care to our babies and their mothers.”
The spacious LDRP suites include many comforts of home and offer support from a highly trained clinical staff, as well as a security system to ensure every baby’s safety.
While at the FBC, patients can relax, play soft music or a movie on the DVD player and use the refrigerator to store their favorite comfort food. The LDRP suites are home to patients through labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care. Mothers who experience a complication can take comfort in knowing special operative procedures take place just seconds away in a surgical suite.
“Mother and baby bonding is encouraged and recommended at the FBC, and mothers can cuddle with their precious little one as much as they wish,” adds Smith. “When mothers need to sleep, they can rest assured their child is being cared for by a professional nursing staff.”
