Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction is defined as the inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for his sexual needs or the needs of his partner. Most men experience this at some point in their lives, usually by age 40, and are not psychologically affected by it. Some men, however experience chronic, complete erectile dysfunction known as impotence and others, partial or brief erections. Approximately 90% of the time, erectile dysfunction does have a physical cause.

There are many treatments for erectile dysfunction, including medications, vacuum erection devices, penile injections and there is also an outpatient surgical procedure. Erectile dysfunction can also be caused by low testosterone level and all of our patients are evaluated for this as well. Sometimes treatment can come in the form of a pill, such as Viagra, Levitra or Cialis. If medications do not work or if there is a contraindication to these medications, there are several other options to try, such as vacuum erection device, or an injection directly into the penis with a very small needle. If none of those options work, we also have something called an inflatable penile implant. This is done in the outpatient department of the hospital. The implant is a totally concealable device implanted inside the penis.

At Urological Associates, we are well equipped to diagnose and treat all facets of erectile dysfunction. There are very few patients who cannot benefit from one of the above options and therefore be able to achieve a satisfactory erection with very high satisfaction rates.
