After a referral from a primary care doctor, pain physicians meet with patients to perform a physical examination, functional capacity evaluation and review past medical history.
They may also conduct a psychological evaluation, as chronic pain can greatly affect an individual’s outlook and functional level. Based on these findings, SPMC develops a personalized treatment plan which isolates symptoms and their underlying causes.
SPMC staff members then work with patients to properly manage their conditions until they are ready to return to the ongoing care of their primary care physicians.
