The physicians at Southeast Pain Management Center are board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and are Board Certified in Pain Management.

Our physicians are highly trained to address the specific needs of pain patients.

We are committed to do all we can to adequately diagnose the cause of your pain and provide a treatment plan that improves your quality of life.

Our goal is to organize an effective treatment plan, and help you return to a level of living that is enjoyable and productive.

Dr. David H. Evans has been practicing general anesthesiology since 1989 and his specialties include acute and chronic pain management and obstetrical anesthesiology.

Originally from Bountiful, Utah, Dr. Evans is a graduate of the University of Utah, Salt Lake City with a degree in Spanish and a masters degree in Social Work. He received his doctorate of medicine from Loyola University in Chicago. Dr. Evans’ internship and residency training were performed at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. Serving for ten years in the United States Navy in both active and reserve status, he participated in Desert Shield and Storm. In 1992, he began practicing in the Wiregrass area and was a staff anesthesiologist for Anesthesia Consultants Medical Group, P.C. until May of 2003, when he began to practice pain management on a full time basis.

Certified as a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and by the American Board of Anesthesiology with specialty boards in pain management, Dr. Evans is a member of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, Houston County Medical Society, Alabama Society of Anesthesiologists, California Medical Society, Utah Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He is licensed by the states of Alabama, California, Florida and Utah.

Dr. Evans and his wife Nancy live in Dothan, Alabama. They are proud parents of three daughters and one son, and very proud grandparents. His wife is a clinical nursing instructor at Wallace Community College. His personal interests, besides his grandchildren, include golf, church service, water-skiing and snow-skiing.

Dr. Jerry Marsella Jr. has been practicing general anesthesiology since 1991. Formerly of Danville, Virginia, Dr. Marsella received his bachelor of science degree in biology at Union College, Schenectady, New York and his masters of science degree in biology at Radford University, Radford, Virginia. After completing his MMSC degree at Emory University in Atlanta, Dr. Marsella served as physician assistant – anesthesiology in Macon, Georgia. After graduating with his doctorate of medicine from the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, and completing his anesthesiology internship, Dr. Marsella became fellowship trained in pain management.

Before becoming a doctor, Dr. Marsella taught junior high school science and math. In 1991, Dr. Marsella joined Anesthesia Consultants Medical Group, P.C. and is the director of pain management at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Dr. Marsella is Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, Board Certified by the American Board of Pain Medicine, member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Anesthesiologists, Alabama Society of Anesthesiologists, American Academy of Pain Medicine, International Association for the Study of Pain, and American Society of Regional Anesthesia. Dr. Marsella is licensed by the states of Alabama and Florida, served as Anesthesiology Representative to the House Staff Council and Chief Resident of Anesthesiology, Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Marsella is on staff with Southeast Alabama Medical Center, the Southeast Pain Management Center and Anesthesia Consultants Medical Group, P.C.

Dr. Marsella has two sons, Ben and John, and resides in Dothan, Alabama. His personal interests include skeet shooting, sailing and woodworking. Dr. Marsella and his family are members of the First United Methodist Church, where he is a member of the choir.

Dr. Michael T. Flanagan is an anesthesiologist and pain management physician specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic pain syndromes.

Formerly of Greensboro, North Carolina, Dr. Flanagan is an honor graduate of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He received his doctorate of medicine from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine and completed a transitional internship and at North Carolina Baptist Hospital of Wake Forest University. His post-doctoral training in clinical anesthesiology was also undertaken at North Carolina Baptist Hospital. During this time he was named a Glaxo-Wellcome Resident Scholar. Following completion of his anesthesiology residency, Dr. Flanagan pursued a fellowship in pain management at North Carolina Baptist Hospital. During his subspecialty training in acute and chronic pain management, he served as chief pain fellow and was selected as a Wyeth-Ayerst Pain Fellow Scholar.

Certified as a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and by the American Board of Anesthesiology with sub-specialty certification in pain management, Dr. Flanagan is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, the Alabama State Society of Anesthesia, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia, the American Medical Association, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, and the Houston County Medical Society. Licensed by the states of Alabama and North Carolina, he is a published author and the recipient of numerous awards and honors.

Dr. Flanagan recently replaced Steven P. Furr, MD, of Jackson, Ala., on the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners, an administrative and regulatory agency of the state of Alabama, and the Medical Licensure Commission of Alabama, a state agency which has the exclusive power and authority to issue, revoke and reinstate all licenses to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State of Alabama.

Dr. Flanagan and his wife, Melissa, reside in Dothan, Alabama. His personal interests include swimming, sailing and skiing. He and his family are members of the St. Columba Catholic Church.

Dr. Mark Willis is an anesthesiologist and pain medicine physician who joined Southeast Pain Management Center after completing a fellowship at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia.

Originally from Oakdale, Louisiana, Dr. Willis served five years in the United States Navy Submarine Force before attending college. Dr. Willis participated in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Before his discharge in 1991, Dr. Willis was stationed in San Diego, California; Groton, Connecticut; Dam Neck, Virginia; Charleston, South Carolina; and Kings Bay, Georgia. During his military service Dr. Willis was honored with the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Letter of Meritorious Achievement issued by Rear Admiral T.A. Meinicke, Commander of COMSUBGRP 6.

Dr. Willis is a graduate of Georgia State University in Atlanta with a degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. He received his doctorate of medicine, transitional internship, anesthesiology residency training and pain management fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He is a member of the American Pain Society, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine as well as the American Medical Association. He is licensed in the states of Georgia and Alabama.

Dr. Willis and his wife, Kimberly, live in Dothan, Alabama. They are the proud parents of three beautiful children; Alyssa, Avery and Mark Jr. His personal interests, besides spending time with his family, include weight-lifting, golf, running and water skiing.

Dr. William McRae is a pain medicine physician and anesthesiologist who joined Southeast Pain Management Center after completing a fellowship in pain management at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon.

A Dothan, Alabama native, Dr. McRae graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, with a degree in Chemistry. He received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. Dr. McRae completed his internship in Internal Medicine at UAB before returning to Vanderbilt University to obtain his anesthesiology residency.

Dr. McRae is certified as a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Alabama State Society of Anesthesia, and the Houston County Medical Society.

Dr. McRae is glad to be in Dothan and enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is also an avid Vanderbilt football and basketball fan.
